Indo Jax® is truly a one-of-a-kind surf school for kids ages 4-17 years old! These half-day camps run from 8 am-12 pm, Monday through Friday, starting the week of June 9th, 2025. We provide world-class surf instruction and professional surf photos of each child; in addition, sunscreen, water, and snacks are included. We are different from the others for many reasons. First of all, our qualifications set us apart from any surf school you’ll find anywhere. Our instructors are certified teachers with extensive surfing backgrounds. Our ocean experience, safety training, and teaching background are unparalleled. With our qualifications, we can provide a “learn to surf” experience that others can’t. In addition, our prices are quite a bit lower than the industry standard. We could charge much more, but we don’t, because we love to teach people to surf! Our most unique feature, however, is we give back! We have an impressive outreach learn-to-surf program. We donate our time and money to local charities, we sponsor local charity events, as well as offer free surf camps to various groups ranging from children infected with HIV, to children with autism. The motto at the school is simple, “We are nothing if we don’t give back!”

End of June-mid August “Camp G.R.A.C.E. is a day camp designed for children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other special needs. Each session of Camp G.R.A.C.E. operates for one week, with each session focusing on building specific skills incorporating therapeutic ideas from many disciplines. We offer two different sessions: Social Skills and Building Blocks. Social Skills Sessions are designed for children that do not require one-on-one assistance. The focus of these sessions will be on activity skill building, teamwork activities, and social situations. The Building Blocks sessions are designed with a smaller ratio to allow for more individual attention. Throughout their camp session, children will work and play within their huddles to learn new games, complete art projects, participate in music and dog therapy times, and much more. Children will also enjoy water activities, sensory integration activities, and character and social skills development time. Individuals from the following organizations donated their time and expertise in the formation of Camp G.R.A.C.E.: The YMCA of the Triangle, A Small Miracle, LLC., the Autism Society of North Carolina, Community Partnerships, Maxim Home Health, and independently contracted behavioral psychologists. It is through the generosity and dedication of all of the above-mentioned organizations and donors to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign that we are able to provide Camp G.R.A.C.E.” We have grant-funded swim lessons, field trips, therapy dogs, music therapy, dance therapy, and sensory days are included as a part of camp. Camp Celebrate is a weekend camp for children ages 7-15 who have survived burn injuries. Created in 1982 in response to an inability to find traditional camping opportunities for a group of young burn patients at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, Camp Celebrate was the first camping experience of its kind. Most campers have been treated at the Burn Center, but Camp Celebrate is open to any pediatric burn survivor in North Carolina. Activities include swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, fishing, an annual Sunday family picnic, as well as an opportunity to meet other kids who share the experience of having been burned. A number of campers return year after year, and some have returned as adults to serve as counselors and share their experiences and knowledge with the children. Teen burn survivors, ages 16-18, can serve as Counselors-in-Training. The program began in 2006 and is designed to contribute to the teen’s personal growth and responsibility.

Through camps, afterschool programs, recreational respite, adult programs, and social groups, individuals on the autism spectrum improve their social and communication skills, peer networks, and physical well-being. Staff are trained to understand their needs and help them reach new goals. After spending time in our Social Recreation programs, individuals show increases in confidence, independence, and a willingness to try new things. The programs also provide needed respite for families and peace of mind that their loved one is in a safe and loving environment. Our summer camp runs from June 17-August 9, Monday through Friday. We do field trips in our community, arts and crafts, music and motion, and group games!
